Coming from a patriarchal society and the challenges that come with it, “The Uppercut”, is a short story, from the perspective of a shy young woman and an introvert on the inside. However, she is headstrong from the outside and takes up kickboxing. Kickboxing to her is strength and confidence of one-self, the euphoric feeling of freedom and agency that she craves. This passion comes with its consequences.

Compiling my photos the image I wanted to feature was someone with kickboxing gloves in a stance that will have boxing gloves up. The gloves would be straight up as a ready position. With their eyes looking straight to the camera. Symbolizing strength and confidence of someone who is ready to strike.
The colors go from pinks, purple, red and black as this shows focus, discipline, empowerment and confidence.
Design
Empower is a digital art story that represents confidence, growth, and knowing one’s worth. The story is a statement of breaking the boundaries and defying the odds. There is a stigma around femininity and kickboxing. Creating this piece signifies that all types of women can feel confident and own who they are kickboxing is not just a sport but a symbol of empowerment.
